Phyllis Hogue Fine Art

My interest in art began in the teen-age years when I entered a drawing contest. I have continued to study with well-known teachers and in workshops as time allowed in my career as a teacher in public schools. My subjects vary from landscape to still life. I enjoy trying to faithfully capture the moods and the local color of the subjects I have chosen. The medium selected for a painting may be oil, acrylic, or watercolor, depending on the special features of the scene or still life to be painted; for example, if texture is desired, oil or acrylic may be used and the paint applied with a palette knife. For other occasions the transparency or freedom of watercolor may enhance the subject and create a different challenge.

I have been an active member of local art groups and participate in juried shows and group exhibitions. Currently I am a member of Houston Civic Arts Association and Watercolor Art Society-Houston. Recently I have become interested in using pressed flowers in my work; therefore, I have joined the World Wide Pressed Flower Guild. New paintings and pressed flower collages are being added frequently so please return often to see new work.

Original works were painted for the covers of The Lone Star Gardener, Fall 2008, and also on the publication for Winter 2009. This magazine is a quarterly publication of Texas Garden Clubs, Inc. and is distributed to members of garden clubs in Texas. Since I am a member of a local garden club, this association combines my love of art and gardening. Paintings in the floral category are based on the flowers I have grown in my yard.

Your interest in my work is appreciated very much. Feel free to contact me through "Contact the Artist" page or call 281-492-2223. I will be pleased to answer any questions concerning my work and look forward to your questions or comments.
